About Monica

IT’S A PLEASURE TO MEET YOU!

I’M MONICA M MADDEN

A strategist who specializes in brain health, relationship building and parent mentoring. My core philosophy of parenting is this:

Parenting isn’t about telling our children what to do; it is about showing them what to do. It’s about being in a relationship with them, becoming their mentor, and being their influencer. Parenting is about guiding our children, as the Bible suggests, in how they should go so they will not depart from our guidance when they get older. Parenting is about mastering ourselves, so we can build the security system around our family and be influencers in our home. Parenting is more than living in survival mode, which, by the way, is how most families live. It’s about helping our family have a PURPOSE-FILLED LIFESTYLE.

When we become the master in our relationship with ourselves, we are open to receiving all that life has to offer, and we create the environment for our children to receive what God has for them. I’ve used this approach to help countless parents get “unstuck” and find the missing pieces of parenting in their life.

Before starting my own consulting business, I worked for 20+ years in IT at a Fortune 100 company. Nowadays, you’ll find me spending time with my teenage daughter, writing, reading good books, and taking digital courses. I love being at home — all while strategizing, serving clients, and recording my Mastering You Podcast — a show dedicated to personal growth and the Fearless Influencing show with my co-host to help build trusted adults.

While I enjoy blogging and podcasting, much of my writing is done privately to my email list, and most readers feel it is my best content. To receive a complimentary copy of my Mastering Your Time Template (regular value $2.99) to help master your day, go to www.monicammadden.com/download.

Broad Perspectives

During my college years, I worked in the credit card industry, where I first invested my time and took free training to develop soft skills, such as communication and facilitation. Second, I love teaching others valuable skills, so I created and facilitated sessions on the latest technologies.

In 1998, my perspective changed from technology training to personal growth and development. I started working for a fortune 500 company and realized there was a need to help my peers cope and deal with changes in the workplace, so I started writing and facilitating lessons on mindset and change.

Because I had become a Mary Kay consultant and decided to build a team, I knew I had to learn how to manage my emotions and gain leadership skills.

In 2014, I learned about my emotional challenges through Deb Erickson, where I began to learn about Neuroscience tools, Hypnosis, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). In 2015 I joined the John Maxwell Team and found my new coach and mentors, Paul Martinelli and Roddy Galbraith, in the photo, which took me deeper and led me to study Hypnosis, NLP, and Human Behaviors.

Depression to Mind Master

For 40(+) years, I lived with depression and suicidal ideation. I had my first suicidal thought when I was six years of age, which came from a conversation that my parents had when they thought I was asleep. Using the Cognitive Behavior Skills, Hypnotherapy, and Neuroscience tools I learned over the last several years, I have successfully become the master of my mind and the master of my thoughts and broke free from depression and suicidal ideation.

Even to this day, I continue to teach Neuroscience techniques to my teenager to help her cope with life as it is, as I saw the signs of anxiety and emotional challenges in her. If you’ve noticed, mental health concerns, such as anxiety and suicide, are growing daily in our children.

Most parents do not realize that their children are struggling internally with anxiety, depression, or suicidal thoughts. There are no external signs of mental challenges when children smile and crack jokes all day. Because I laughed a lot, my parents did not know I had internal struggles as a child. Most parents do not know that they should have mental concerns about their children, so I provide tools to help them better navigate the world, or rather, I provide the means to STOP THE ENEMY AT THE GATE. Looking back at my journey, I can see that God was equipping me to help parents put strategies in place that keep their children trusting them so they can be the voice and mentor in their children’s lives.

From IT to Strategist

I continue to strategize and mentor parents and youth at work and after. I continuously use skills I’ve gained: leadership, personal growth, parent mentoring, business strategizing, consulting, and youth mentoring. I LOVE IT!

Realizing I could help people outside my organization, I started mentoring, guiding, and strategizing with others through one-on-one and group sessions. Personal and business strategizing is a natural fit, given my love to help others grow and build a protective gate around themselves and their families. Rather than me looking for my “passion,” my “passion” found me through helping my parents.

I continue to learn and grow and serve as a catalyst for people, personal growth, and the next generation. When parents grow, their relationships with their children flourish, so they become influencers in their house. To connect with me, you can find me on social media.

From Strategist to Philanthropist

As I was receiving my deliverance from mental health concerns, I asked God to heal me first and then show me what steps I went through so I could help others. As I was going through my healing journey, I published my book, Blessing and Cursing: What Fruit Are You Eating? Because I found that a lot of my emotional trauma came from the words I heard others speak and the things I said to myself.

Reflecting on my eight-year healing journey, I found that I did at least 24 things to receive my healing. Aside from the previously mentioned techniques (NLP, Hypnotherapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy), I became one of Dr. Amen’s, Amen’s Clinics, Brain Health Professionals, and Licensed Brain Trainers. I learned that the steps that I took toward my healing were steps that healed my brain.

I realized that most of us have no idea that what we label mental health issues are brain health issues. Most of us have no clue that our world contributes to brain health illnesses, so we stay in this cycle of unidentifiable mental health challenges. To help further my communities, I founded Increasing Mental Wellness and Awareness Organization (IMWAO), a nonprofit geared towards educating on the ties between brain health and mental wellness. In addition to educating, we are kicking off campaigns to provide families with the resources to help heal their families. You can learn more about our organization at www.imwao.org.
